As a reminder of how far we, as a society, have come, in the last century or so. Why even back in the 60′s, when titties were a-flappin’ and love was free, that love only came in one flavor…vanilla (maybe with sprinkles). That’s why Rock Hudson, Raymond Burr (!), and Robert Reed (Mike Brady on the Brady Bunch) had to stay in the closet, while the rest of Hollywood was getting high, fucking, and being murdered by the Manson Family.
It seems quaint, if not a little insulting, to have “mere” homosexuality featured on a blog more well known for figging, sounding, and pony play. I, however, came across a photo slideshow, on the WCBS-TV (NYC) website. It’s a roll call of famous people, men and women, from the past, who had to hide their light(ness of their loafers) under a bushel, lest they be ruined careerwise…at the very least. There was a time, not very long ago at all, when homosexuality was as taboo as scat play.
Some people were no brainers, like Paul Lynde. Some, like Oscar Wilde, were famous for being imprisoned, and broken, for being gay. Others, like Raymond Burr, and Paul Winfield, might be news to some. Anyway, take a look at the slideshow, and think about your life, and the relative freedom you have to express yourself, and your sexuality, and maybe say a little somethin’ for those upon those whose lives were kept in shadow, out of fear. Stay Naughty!
